With back to school time quickly approaching and the beautiful weather we've been having here in California, I did not want to miss out on this fun and local adventure and you shouldn't either! Last week we visited Pirate Coast Paddle Company in Newport Beach inside Newport Dunes Resort for a fun paddle boarding experience. If you have yet to try this or have been looking for the right place to visit, keep reading to learn all about our day and why we highly recommend this company.

This was our first experience paddle boarding with this company and we had such a wonderful experience. The staff was so friendly and happy to give us a little lesson prior to getting on the boards, since it had been a couple years since we had last done it. It's a perfect location for families and kids! The water was calm specially inside the Dunes (under the bridge) and the whole area is beautiful.
We started inside the Dunes but as soon as we got comfortable we went towards the Upper Back Bay and Dover Canals where the water was still calm but we did get some small waves when boats passed by, it was exciting! It was also really nice to see the beautiful homes and boats up close but if you rather have perfectly still water then I would recommend staying inside the Dunes.

Alexia tried going on her own board but was not comfortable quite yet. She did practice on dads board and got comfortable after a while. At the end of our session she said she's getting her very own board next time...Yay! We were out there for 2 1/2 hours and could have stayed longer if it wasn't for hunger kicking in.

Very important specially during these times, all staff members were wearing masks. They were also very careful about cleaning the boards and paddles before and after we used them. We highly recommend them for a fun and safe experience! On arrival if the boards have already been cleaned but you would like them to be sprayed again they will be happy to do it, they even have a sign letting you know its ok to ask. Below is a picture with all their COVID protocols for you to see prior to visiting.

What to wear
You can dress in active wear or swim suits. We wore swimsuits since we knew it was a warm day and would want to get wet. There was definitely some splashing and feet in the water to keep cool. They have small lockers you can rent for $3 dollars but keep in mind they are small so pack the essentials like a towel, sunscreen, wallet and coverup.
Parking
Parking is free if you park on Back Bay Drive and walk in but If you park inside the Dunes like we did there is a charge.
30min- 2 hours $10
2-5 hours $15
5-24 hours $20
Prices
I went ahead and took a picture of prices for you!
