Updated: Mar 16, 2022
This is a sponsored post in collaboration with Netflix and #WeAllGrow Latina Network

Who remembers hearing about, listening to, and dancing to Selena's music ? I know I do which is why I was so excited when I heard about Selena: The Series coming to Netflix on December 4th. Thanks to We All Grow Latina, I was fortunate enough to watch the series before its release, as well as have a sit down zoom interview with Ricardo Chavira and Seidy Lopez who played Selena's parents. I'm excited to share with you a little bit about this new Netflix series and give you an inside look at our interview.

Who was Selena
Before she became the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena Quintanilla was a young girl from Texas with big dreams and an even bigger voice. Selena: The Series explores her journey from singing small gigs to becoming the most successful female Latin artist of all time ā and the years of hard work and sacrifice the Quintanilla family went through together.

Selena The Series
Of course the series explores Selena's journey to stardom but we also get to see so much more! We get to see her life and struggles even before she became the Selena we all remember. The series really focuses on family unity, love, and how they navigate through their life struggles to get to where they did. We not only get to see Selena's journey but the whole family's journey as a band, and as individuals. The series also shows all the behind the scenes! The family being on the road, creating music together and their family dynamic while doing it all. Selena's sister Suzette is an executive producer on this scripted series and helped develop this story with her family which to me makes it so much more special. Even if this is your first time learning about Selena's story there is so much to take from this series. You see a family who fights for their dreams while keeping a close family unity. As Seidy Lopez stated during her interview, she hopes this series inspire others to go after their dreams like the Quintanilla family did.
As part of the Latino community, I love how they incorporate so many aspect of our heritage and upbringing into the series. It makes the show very relatable! Personally the music throughout the series really brought back so many beautiful memories and the performances were amazing. Even if you did not grow up in this community, I think the series does a wonderful job at representing the Latino community through different generations. It's a great way for someone on the outside to learn and understand our culture.

Interview
I want to share with you the the full interview we had with Ricardo Chavira and Seidy Lopez, also known as Abraham and Marcella, Selena's parents. Check it out!
Hope you enjoyed the interview as much as I did! If you are a fan of Selena, would like to learn how she became one of the most successful female Latin artist of all time, or just a fan of a good family series, then you should definitely add this to your Netflix watch list for December 4th. So many unanswered questions are answered and the actors do an amazing job portraying the family. Personally, I loved the series and can't wait to hear what you think! Let me just say that part 2 can't come soon enough.
